52" Marston Pterodactyl - NEW revision March 2008!
twin engine, aileron, elevator, rudder and throttle
complete laser cut kit includes plans and 2 carbon spars
Design Notes:
The 52" span Marston Pterodactyl is the fifth evolution of the twin electric Pterodactyl, and the most advanced, benefiting from years of prior design heritage. It is the product of countless hours of research, brainstorming, and lots of building and re-building. Unlike the 80" model, this kit can be built in a few weeks and includes everything except covering material, hardware, and electronics. All wood required is included as well as two full length carbon spars and full size rolled plans. One-piece wing attaches to body with two nylon screws. Same beautiful organic lines as the 80" Pterodactyl, but considerably more complete and less complicated to build.
Intermediate level building skills are recommended.
Requires two small outrunner brushless motors (Axi/Atlas 2208 or equal), one 25A or two 10A controllers, four mini servos and a 2000 mah 3s Li-poly.
Wingspan 52 1/8”
Length 31”
wing area 330 square inches - 2.29 square feet
weight RTF 24 oz.
wing loading 10.7 oz/square foot

80" Marston Pterodactyl - short kit
twin engine, full house control (aileron, elevator, rudder, flaps, throttle)
weight RTF - 68 oz. with 3s2p 2600 mah Li-poly batteries
Design Notes:
The 80" span Marston Pterodactyl is the largest Pterodactyl. This is the fourth electric twin motor version of the Pterodactyl. The wing has very few straight surfaces, and is very strong. It utilizes a fully shear-webbed D-tube design with carbon reinforced spruce spars. The leading edge is 1/8" plywood, sheeted with 1/16" balsa. Airfoil is a modified 10% Clark Y. The high aspect ratio gives it excellent glide capability. The two-piece wing uses a 3/8" x 10" carbon wing joiner in a brass tube. The body uses carbon tube longerons that run from the base of the neck to the back of the tails. Short kit does not include spruce spars, balsa sheeting or carbon parts. Download parts list (below) for list of materials needed.
Advanced building skills are strongly recommended.
